Pueblo is a great community. We all know that. But we also know that there are certain things we would like to change to improve life here: We would like better roads. Less crime. More economic development. Less litter. You can probably think of a few other items you would add to this list.

That’s why we are recommending that city residents vote in favor of ballot issue 2A in the Nov. 7 election. If approved, the measure would amend the city’s charter to create the position of an elected mayor. The mayor would be required to work full time at that job and not any other, for a salary of $150,000 per year.

This would dismantle the city’s council-manager form of government, which has been in place since 1954. For some people, this might seem like a radical change. But that’s only because the current form of government has been in place so long.
