Unvaccinated adult confirmed to have Measles in Pueblo
An unvaccinated individual has been confirmed with a case of measles in Pueblo after traveling to an area of Mexico currently experiencing an outbreak, according to a news release from the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Monday evening.
Based on the available information, the department has identified the following locations and dates where others may have been exposed, according to the release.
- March 17-21: Southwest Deli and Cafe, 1873 S. Pueblo Blvd. Pueblo, CO 81005
- Saturday, March 22: Southern Colorado Clinic, 109 South Burlington Drive, Pueblo West, CO 81007
Anyone who was in these locations during the the dates listed should monitor their symptoms for 21 days after the exposure and should consider avoiding public gatherings, the release notes.
Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that usually starts several days later on the face and spreads, the release says. If you were at one of these locations during the exposure window and develop symptoms, immediately contact your health care provider or an urgent care by phone.
Measles is highly contagious and often severe, but it is a preventable disease, the department notes in the release. People who have received measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine or were born before 1957 are generally considered immune.
