The Pueblo Chieftain: State should intervene in D60 labor dispute

It will be difficult to resolve a labor dispute between Pueblo City Schools (D60) and its teachers and paraprofessionals. Let’s hope the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment is willing to give it a try, anyway.
Department officials have until midnight Wednesday to determine whether or not to get involved in the situation. If they don’t, then D60’s teachers and paraprofessionals could go on strike as early as the next day. That would be a real tragedy if that happens.
If the department does decide to intervene, it could take up to 180 days to mediate a compromise. That would carry the school district through the end of the school year, avoiding — at least temporarily — the disruptions a strike would cause.
