The Pueblo Chieftain: Pump brakes on ballot initiative

Earlier this week, we encouraged people to attend a public hearing today to provide their input on a proposal to put a tax increase for local schools on the November ballot.

Now here’s our input: This proposal is, at best, premature and perhaps even unnecessary. While a majority of Pueblo City Schools (D60) board members seem ready to send the tax increase initiative to the voters, it’s our fervent hope that they’ll reconsider.

After today’s public hearing, the board members are scheduled to discuss whether to put the measure on the ballot. Which makes you wonder if they already have made up their minds and the input they get at today’s meeting will be anything more than window dressing.
