The Pueblo Chieftain: City should explore multiple recreation outlets

Pueblo’s Ray Aguilera and Chris Nicoll want to make youth and recreation facilities more accessible to our young people. But the two city councilmen ought to look to existing gymnasiums and playing fields readily available in the neighborhoods, rather than just one centrally located Downtown site.
Nicoll, the council president, is backing Councilman Aguilera’s vision to give youngsters a productive outlet, off the streets and out of trouble. They share a common goal of investing in the formative lives of Pueblo’s youngsters.
We respectfully suggest, however, that they explore what’s already out there in the neighborhoods where the kids actually live and go to school, rather than concentrate an undetermined amount of time and money on building a single, smacking new facility in the old central business district.
