The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: City must bridge canal-trail divide

The debate over whether Grand Valley irrigation canal banks and roads should be accessible to the commuting and recreating public isn’t as old as the canals themselves. It just seems that way.

Every few years, some entity — usually the city of Grand Junction — broaches the idea of placing trails on top of or next to the canals and ditches that provide irrigation water to the valley’s farms and lawns. And every few years, the private nonprofits and companies that own and operate those waterways offer the same response: No way, no how.
