Three newcomers to Aurora's nonpartisan city council will be honored with the Rising Star Award by the Colorado Democratic Party at its inaugural Obama Dinner on Feb. 3 in Denver, the party announced. Democratic Party luminary Jason Kander gave Eagle County prosecutor Dylan Roberts some advice a few months back, and this week he took it. Kander, a former Missouri secretary of state and 2016 U.S. Senate nominee, delivered the keynote address at the Colorado Democratic Party's annual dinner in March, the same night Roberts presented a pair of awards from the state party named for his brother Murphy Roberts, who died last summer at age 22.

Democratic Secretary of State candidate Jena Griswold blasted Republican incumbent Wayne Williams on Friday for agreeing to go along with a White House election commission's request for voter data even as privacy advocates challenged its legality and thousands of Colorado voters were canceling their registrations. But a spokeswoman for Williams said the secretary has simply been following the law by treating  the state's voter rolls as public records.

Colorado Democrats elected former Senate President Morgan Carroll as state party chair Saturday at a central committee meeting in Denver. "I believe what we need right now is a movement, not just a club, and I believe the Democratic Party should be on the front lines of the resistance — we must adapt or face extinction,” Carroll told Democrats gathered at the Marriott Denver City Center for the party's biennial reorganization.
