STRIKE UP THE BAND ... It is, after all, March Fourth. The celebration started a few days early in Colorado, when John Philip Sousa IV, the grandson of the composer and marching band icon, was on hand to endorse a pair of longshot Republican candidates — Greg Lopez, the former Parker mayor running for governor, and Casper Stockham, who lost a bid to unseat Democrat Diana DeGette in the 1st Congressional District last time around and is giving it another go this cycle.

THEY GRABBED A CLIPBOARD ... It looks like a lot of Coloradans took the advice of a certain soon-to-be-former president. In his farewell address, delivered just over a week before leaving office, President Barack Obama said an oft-quoted line — "If you're disappointed by your elected officials, grab a clipboard, get some signatures, and run for office yourself" — that might have launched a thousand candidacies, including quite a few here in Colorado.

Saira Rao says she decided to stop practicing law at a New York firm and start a publishing company devoted to children’s fiction featuring diverse characters when she was watching cartoons with her daughter Lila one day about six years ago. “I saw the utter lack of diversity, and that’s when I switched gears to do something about it. I’m very familiar with institutional naysayers. When you’re a woman of color, that’s every day,” she says.

Diana DeGette does not stand for you.  DeGette and her fat cat cronies have been getting wealthy while our communities suffer.  She shows up at election time for our votes and, once elected, quickly returns to Washington to vote for bigger and bigger government programs that make her and her friends rich and powerful and keep us and our families down. I, Casper Stockham, stand for you!
