The Pueblo Chieftain: Pueblo 911 text service

The city of Pueblo and Pueblo County are adding new 911 texting service to the more familiar telephone calls for emergency help.

Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor announced Feb. 9 that text-to-911 already is available in areas of the county outside the city limits. Texting is an option for people who cannot make a phone call for one reason or the other, or when silence is needed to protect someone from being overheard by a would-be assailant.

Now Pueblo Police Chief Troy Davenport has announced that the city also is installing a text-to-911 system as an alternative to 911 voice calls. Because the city will take until May or so to replace its entire 911 system, the new texting component likely will not be ready to use until early fall.
