Pueblo Chieftain: The low-hanging fruit

If we’re being honest, it’s going to be difficult for Congress to get much of anything substantive done this year. The United States Senate is sharply divided along partisan lines. And with midterm elections coming up in the fall, neither Republicans nor Democrats may be motivated to push too hard for another major legislative initiative.

Despite the frigid political climate, Congress should try to pass a comprehensive infrastructure improvement bill this year. Unlike recent debates about Obamacare and tax reform, an infrastructure bill has the potential to draw substantial bipartisan support. Or at least it should.

According to news reports, President Donald Trump could release a proposal related to infrastructure later this month.
