LOVELAND — Larimer County commissioners implored officials from the fast-growing Denver suburb of Thornton to work with county residents to find an alternative for the proposed water pipeline project.

The Loveland Daily Reporter-Herald reports county commissioners delayed action Wednesday on a permit request from Thornton to build the 75-mile pipeline connecting reservoirs north of Fort Collins to the city’s water treatment facilities.

Commissioners will take up the matter again in mid-December to allow Thornton officials to gather more information on alternatives and launch a robust public outreach process.

County residents along the proposed pipeline route have complained about the possible impacts of construction, saying the city did not consult or listen to them when it announced the route.
