The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel: North Avenue imbroglio cannot spill over to CMU

The Grand Junction City Council will formally decide next month whether to rescind an earlier decision to change North Avenue to University Boulevard.

If the council sticks to its guns, petitioners will proceed with gathering signatures to put the name change to an expensive public vote, sowing further division on an issue that was supposed to promote civic pride in our local university.

Whatever the council decides, it should consider the intent of the name change — to establish a stronger connection between Colorado Mesa University and the rest of the community for economic gain. Does acquiescing help or hinder that effort?
