Crow, Neguse, 10 other Colo. Dems get thumbs-up from Obama in new wave of endorsements

Twelve Colorado Democrats were given a stamp of approval Monday by former President Barack Obama, part of a second wave of endorsements that includes congressional candidates Jason Crow and Joe Neguse.

Crow is battling Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman in Colorado’s 6th Congressional District, which covers Aurora and Centennial. Neguse is pitted against Republican Peter Yu in the open seat for the state’s 2nd Congressional District, currently represented by Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jared Polis since 2009.

The additional candidates to receive endorsements include state treasurer candidate state Rep. David Young of Greeley and nine state House candidates: House District 3 incumbent Rep. Jeff Bridges of Greenwood Village; incumbent House District 17 Rep. Tony Exum Sr. of Colorado Springs; House District 18 candidate Marc Synder, also of Colorado Springs; House District 25 candidate Lisa Cutter of Littleton; House District 31 candidate Yadira Caraveo of Thornton; incumbent House District 33 Rep. Matt Gray of Broomfield; House District 34 candidate Kyle Mullica of Northglenn; House District 37 candidate Tom Sullivan of Centennial and incumbent House District 59 Rep. Barbara McLachlan of Durango.

“Today, I’m proud to endorse even more Democratic candidates who aren’t just running against something, but for something – to expand opportunity for all of us and to restore dignity, honor and compassion to public service,” Obama tweeted Monday. “They deserve your vote.”

Obama endorsed candidates from 29 states on Monday, adding to the 81 endorsements of candidates in 14 states he made in August in what he dubbed his “first wave” of endorsements.

That wave included the gubernatorial ticket of Jared Polis and Dianne Primavera; attorney general nominee Phil Weiser, who worked in the Obama Justice Department; and secretary of state nominee Jena Griswold, who worked on Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Nine Colorado legislative candidates also received the former president’s formal backing.
