Her congressional bid may be over, but the party is about to begin!

Give Lakewood Democratic state Rep. Brittany Pettersen extra points for showing grace amid disappointment. No, it won’t win her the 7th CD seat for which she briefly was a candidate (alongside some others); it looks like that will remain Democratic U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter’s, now that he has decided to jump back into the race and seek re-election. At least, for 2018.
But expressing gratitude to the supporters of her short-lived congressional bid — by throwing them a party, which she announces in a press release today — is sure to win friends. For life, perhaps — if you’ll pardon our momentary lapse into rank sentimentality — as well as for any political aspirations down the road.
Here’s Pettersen’s e-invitation:
Thank you for believing in me and supporting my campaign for Congress. I am overwhelmed with gratitude for each and every one of you who stepped up to volunteer, donate, or lend your incredible talents to this unforgettable experience.
As you probably already know, I ended my campaign when Ed Perlmutter decided he was going to seek reelection. While I am disappointed I won’t have the opportunity to serve our community in Congress, I am so proud of the campaign we built together in such a short time. I never could have done any of this without you.
I hope you can join my campaign to celebrate our many accomplishments, and the amazing people who made it happen…
…I am inspired every day to continue to serve and increase opportunities for people who want a shot at making a better life for themselves. I am only where I am today because my community invested in me, and I will never stop fighting to give others that same chance.
I will always remember your support.
