Tom Seaver has been named director of the Colorado Lottery.
Michael Hartman — executive director of the Colorado Department of Revenue, which oversees the Lottery, made the announcement Thursday.
“Seaver brings more than 30 years of lottery industry experience as a leader, high-level manager and consultant with state and international lotteries and to lottery vendors, including the Virginia and Missouri lotteries,” the announcement said.
Among lottery clients Seaver has worked with, the announcement said, are the Colorado Lottery as well as the national lottery of Greece and Lotto Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.
The announcement comes several weeks after Gov. John Hickenlooper signed a bill reauthorizing the state Lottery’s operations through 2049.
Almost all Lottery proceeds after costs — more than $670 million over the last five fiscal years — has been committed to outdoor recreation projects as well as wildlife habitat and conservation. Its funds primarily go to the Conservation Trust Fund, Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Great Outdoors Colorado and the Building Excellent Schools Today (BEST) program.
“I’m excited for Tom to join the Department of Revenue family as the next senior director of the Colorado Lottery,” Hartman said in a statement. “With the reauthorization of the Colorado Lottery through 2049 and with his vast experience and expertise in all things lottery, the residents of Colorado will be well served. We look forward to Tom and the lottery team growing the proceeds that are used to preserve Colorado’s natural beauty.”
Seaver will relocate to Pueblo, where the Lottery is headquartered, and assume his duties June 25, the announcement said.
“I am very honored and happy to be chosen as director of the Colorado Lottery,” Seaver said. “I have seen firsthand the tremendous good that can come from a successful lottery. Here in Colorado, we are lucky to have a lottery that contributes directly to the lifestyle we enjoy, and to maintaining the natural beauty of the state. I look forward to working with the lottery team in the responsible growth of the Colorado Lottery.”
