If we ran the state of Colorado like Puerto Rico’s politicians have run that U.S. territory’s government for the last decade, we would have had to close up shop a long time ago. As a member of the Colorado House of Representatives, balancing our state budget on a yearly basis, and responsibly spending the taxpayers’ money is not only of critical importance but also a constitutional requirement. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Puerto Rico, and the territory’s ruling class has great political connections. Instead of having to face the music, they’re probably going to get help from their friends in Washington, D.C.
