Having seen Jared Polis’s misleading campaign ad attacking Cary Kennedy for the umpteenth time, I am sharing some direct insight about his claim that he “led” the effort to increase funding for every school in Colorado – and from where the actual leadership came.  I was the campaign manager for that effort – Amendment 23.  Cary Kennedy conceived the amendment, wrote it and led the effort to explain it, debate it and advocate for it.  Working with a crew of tenacious women, they fought for and won the Amendment 23 election.  Cary’s ability as citizen leader was clear:  She identified a problem, identified a solution and built momentum to fix it.

I am respectfully responding to my colleague and friend state Sen. John Cooke’s recent op-ed regarding the “red flag” legislation introduced this session.  Red flag laws save lives.  When a person is in crisis, loved ones and law enforcement are often the first to see signs that they pose a threat.  The bi-partisan proposal we brought forward this year would have established a process to temporarily remove firearms from individuals who pose a serious threat before they harm themselves or others.

Colorado's 2nd Congressional District Democratic U.S. Rep. Jared Polis is attempting to pull the rug out from under hardworking Coloradans by repealing the recent federal tax reform. His "Students Over Special Interests Act" supposedly would use the money from the tax cut to cancel federal student loan debt. Yet, it would raise Coloradans’ federal taxes and slash Colorado’s state budget revenue. That's because the tax reform could add as much as $300 million to Colorado's state budget, according to the Colorado Fiscal Institute.
