I was so thrilled to read that U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette was urging more women to run for higher office in the April 25 issue. No doubt, she will soon be announcing her endorsement of Cynthia Coffman for Colorado’s next attorney general. It seems the Democratic candidate, Don Quick, has already announced he will not defend some of Colorado’s laws if he thinks they are unconstitutional. This was a startling announcement, to say the least, as it is up to the judicial branch to determine if a law is constitutional, not the attorney general. As Colorado’s chief deputy attorney general, Coffman already knows that it is the job of the attorney general to defend Colorado’s laws whether they were passed by the vote of the people, or by the state legislature with the governor’s signature. Fortunately, the best qualified candidate for attorney general this year, is a woman and I imagine that must please Rep. DeGette immensely.
