Seasoned pol Brophy brings political savvy to national lobbying-&-PR firm

Former state Sen. Greg Brophy announced Monday that he is joining a national government and public relations firm’s Denver office as vice president of the western region.

Brophy, a Wray farmer, will coordinate efforts with Michael Best Strategies LLC‘s regional state offices and those in Washington, D.C.

Michael Best Strategies  is a government relations, public affairs, business and nonprofit consulting group affiliated with the Michael Best & Friedrich LLP law firm.

“The Michael Best Strategies’ business model has always fascinated me in its ability to possess a profound understanding of the connectedness between federal and state affairs,” Brophy said. “My government background working with large, Colorado-based industries such as energy, agricultural and health care will provide a foundation for the firm’s growing client base as a one-stop shop for their consulting, regulatory and government relations needs.”

Brophy served 12 years in the legislature in both the House and Senate, during which time he held several leadership positions, including leading on agricultural issues. Brophy unsuccessfully ran for governor in 2014.

He served as the chief of staff to U.S. Rep. Ken Buck, R-Greeley, for 14 months, beginning his stint in 2015. He also operated a community relations firm, Brophy Strategies.

He will focus on facilitating communications between regionally-based U.S. companies and organizations and the federal government in Washington, D.C., through collaboration with Michael Best Strategies’ teams in the nation’s capital, according to a news release announcing the hire.

“Greg has been a positive force in the Colorado legislature, and now he’ll bring that energy and experience in the agriculture and natural resources sectors to our firm,” said Ted Kanavas, president of Michael Best Strategies. “I’m confident he will be a great asset to advancing our work in the state as it relates to activities of our nation’s federal government.”
